This policy provides guidance for employee use of social media. For purposes of this policy, social media includes blogs, wikis, microblogs, message boards, chat rooms, electronic newsletters, online forums, social networking sites, and other services that allow users to share information with others.
PROCEDURES
The following principles apply to professional use of social media on behalf of BIOptimizers USA Inc., as well as personal use of social media when referencing BIOptimizers USA Inc.:
- Employees must understand and follow BIOptimizers USA Inc.’s employee handbook and company policies when referencing the company on social media.
- Employees should be aware of the effect their actions may have on their reputations and the reputation of BIOptimizers USA Inc. Information posted or published online may remain publicly available for an extended period.
- BIOptimizers USA Inc. may review content and information that employees make publicly available through social media, as permitted by applicable law. Employees should use their best judgment and avoid posting material that is inappropriate or harmful to BIOptimizers USA Inc., its employees, or its customers.
- Prohibited social-media conduct includes posting commentary, content, or images that are defamatory, pornographic, harassing, libelous, unlawfully discriminatory, or otherwise capable of creating a hostile work environment.
- Employees must not publish, post, or release confidential or nonpublic information. Questions about what is considered confidential should be directed to Human Resources or a supervisor.
- Social-media posts may generate press attention, media inquiries, or legal questions. Employees should refer these inquiries to an authorized BIOptimizers USA Inc. spokesperson.
- If a social-media discussion becomes antagonistic, employees should disengage politely and seek guidance from a supervisor.
- Employees should obtain appropriate permission before referring to or posting images of current or former employees, customers, vendors, or suppliers. Employees must also obtain permission before using third-party copyrighted materials, trademarks, service marks, or other intellectual property.
- Employees who post about BIOptimizers USA Inc. products or services, including on personal accounts, must clearly and conspicuously disclose their employment relationship with the company in accordance with the FTC's Endorsement Guides (16 C.F.R. Part 255). Employees should not make health, safety, or efficacy claims about products beyond those pre-approved by the Marketing and Legal departments.
- Use of social media for authorized business purposes is permitted. Personal social-media use must not interfere with an employee’s job responsibilities or violate applicable company policies.
Nothing in this policy is intended to restrict employees from discussing wages, hours, benefits, or working conditions; reporting suspected unlawful conduct; communicating with government agencies; or exercising other rights protected by applicable law.
