Blood tests may identify diagnosable serious causes of low stomach acid that require medical interventions. These include:
- Anti-parietal cell antibodies can detect antibodies against acid-producing cells in your stomach.
- Anti-intrinsic factor detect antibodies against intrinsic factor, which is necessary for vitamin B12 absorption.
- Pepsinogen, a pro-enzyme produced in the stomach. Changes in ratios of pepsinogen can indicate inflammation of the stomach.
- Stomach gastrin levels, a stomach hormone. Abnormal levels can indicate issues with the stomach.
