By now you’ve probably heard the news that yogurt is incredibly healthy food to have in your diet plan. People are touting the benefits of yogurt everywhere, stating that it’s a must-have for optimal digestive health.

And it can be. Yogurt is a great food that is without a doubt, going to offer many excellent benefits.

This said, there is one drawback:

Lactose.

If you’re someone who struggles with consuming dairy and your stomach often gets upset then you may find that dairy is completely a no-go for you. You eat it and you’re doubled over in pain and spending the next few hours in the bathroom.

This means yogurt is also a no-go and you can’t reap the many benefits that yogurt has to offer.

Until now…

Fortunately, there is a solution. Dairy-Free Coconut yogurt contains all the great benefits that yogurt does for your digestive health but doesn’t provide any lactose at all and is also exceptionally low in sugar.

This means it may even be better for your diet overall than plain yogurt was.

Let’s look at some key benefits that you can expect to see after adding coconut yogurt into your diet plan.

Improved Energy Levels

Runner on the Beach with Optimized Health

The first great benefit you’ll get is improved energy levels. This is because, despite the fact that coconut yogurt is very low in carbs, the fats it does contain are healthy fats that release their energy quickly.

These ‘medium-chain triglycerides’ as they are called are actually going to power you like carbohydrates would, so you’ll feel more like you ate carbs after having them.

This makes this a fantastic snack to have when low carb dieting and energy is often at a premium. You can eat this, stick to your diet, and feel more like yourself again.

Because coconut fat is also not going to spike blood glucose levels at all, this means you’ll get a steady supply of energy for hours at a time rather than feeling a spike in energy followed quickly by a crash.

Enhanced Heart Health

Let’s talk about heart health. Many people are under the impression to improve their heart health they should be avoiding all dietary fat.

Not so! In fact, the right fats will improve heart health, positioning you better for success in terms of warding off heart disease. Coconut fat can help to lower cholesterol levels, improve your triglyceride profile, and help keep your heart beating nice and healthy.

As coconut meat is still relatively high in calories given all the fat it does contain, you do want to watch your serving size still, but by all means – eat up!

Stronger Immune System

Keeping your immune system in top shape is important for not only functioning at your best on a day-to-day basis but also being able to fight off disease when it may strike.

Many people sadly are not doing all they can do for their immune system and sooner or later they start to feel burnt out, run-down, and just plain unwell.

And if they do fall ill, they’re likely to notice that they have a super slow recovery process because their body doesn’t have the resources it needs to be able to heal itself at optimal rates.

Improved Gut Health

One of the key benefits of yogurt that many people recognize and the big reason why they consume it is that it can help improve and enhance your gut health.

Coconut yogurt is no different – at least when you use this recipe. The recipe we’re about to reveal to you incorporates the all-powerful probiotic, P3-OM, which will help to kick-start the growth of the healthy bacteria in your gut, giving you all the probiotics that you need to start seeing optimal results.

Having a healthy gut flora can be beneficial for everything from boosting cognition and concentration to helping assist with the process of weight loss.

Sadly, many people completely overlook probiotics in their diet because they’re all too concerned with counting calories and macros.

While both of those are important, we also need to look at the micronutrients and micro-organisms we’re eating to ensure that we stay on track.

Gut health is something that can really alter your well-being and how you feel but something that you probably also won’t realize until you start improving it.

By taking the steps necessary to enhance your digestive health, you’ll start noticing what a difference it can make.

On top of this, the probiotics paired together with coconut make for a perfect pair because coconut oil on its own can help to kill off some of the harmful microorganisms in the body, and these are often the ones that are working against the healthy probiotics that you’re trying to encourage.

Together, the two ingredients will get your body free from all unwanted troublesome bacteria.

Reduced Hunger

Another great benefit that coconut oil brings is a lower overall level of hunger. This is because it works great at delivering energy immediately but also provides staying power since there is no spike to your blood glucose levels.

So even though dieters may be reluctant to try coconut-based products because they do contain higher calories, you need to remember that these calories will ‘last longer’ so to speak, preventing you from unnecessary snacking later on.

Reducing your hunger is something that should be the goal of almost every dieter because you can have the most perfect diet plan in the world but if you keep cheating on it because you’re just too hungry, you aren’t going to get very far.

If hunger is a big issue for you, it’s worthwhile to consider a lower carb, higher fat approach as these types of meal plans typically do control hunger much better.

Convenience

Let’s not forget about the convenience of this delicious yogurt. It only takes about five minutes to prepare and then a day or so to let stand so the fermentation process can get underway, but after that, you have a delicious jar of yogurt that you can eat in seconds.

It makes for a great snack at any point during the day or can also be blended up into your favorite smoothie if you prefer as well.

In a world where most people are all about convenience when it comes to their diet plan and rarely has time to do just about anything cooking related, this is a very valuable benefit.

Improved Skin, Hair, and Nail Health

While our main focus should always be on getting our insides working and feeling great, most of us do, to some extent also want to ensure that we are keeping our external appearance up to our standards.

The great news about this coconut yogurt is that all of the ingredients are perfect for improving skin, nail, and hair health. You’ll notice your complexion gets better after you begin eating this – your skin has a more radiant glow and you’ll likely notice your hair suffers from less breakage and has more moisture and movement as well.

Your nails will no longer be brittle or weak and you may even help to fend off pre-mature signs of aging such as wrinkles or fine line development.

What you eat does have a huge impact on your outward appearance so, despite all the make-up or skincare regimes in the world, it’s still best to work on an inside out basis.

So all of this said, let’s now talk about this recipe.

The Ingredient Line-Up

Below are the powerful components that make up this recipe.

Coconut Meat

The first ingredient in your coconut yogurt recipe is coconut meat. This is going to provide the bulk of the recipe and what brings in that delicious flavor you’re looking for.

When shopping for coconut meat, you’ll want to ensure you get pure coconut meat with nothing else added. You don’t want any extra preservatives or sugar as these are not going to provide benefits to your body.

Coconut meat can usually be purchased at most major grocery stores, however, it can also be found in specialty stores if your local grocer doesn’t carry it.

We recommend using young Thai coconut meat as we find it has the best flavor for this recipe, however you are free to use whichever coconut meat you prefer.

Coconut Water

Next up we have coconut water. Coconut water is rich in electrolytes, which can help keep the body in proper balance while also ensuring that you are maintaining optimal blood pressure levels.

Coconut water is great for detoxification purposes, so it may help assist with some waste removal from the body.

It’ll help contribute light flavor to this recipe as well while providing the liquid needed to thin the recipe down.

Again, try and get plain coconut water that is not sweetened. Coconut water does naturally contain some sugar, which is fine, but avoid one that contains added sugar that you don’t want.

Filtered Water

To the coconut water, you’ll also be using filtered water as well. This water will help to thin out the mixture further, helping give it that yogurt consistency. Coconut meat on its own doesn’t have a smooth texture, so the added water, when blended together will help break the coconut meat down and make it something that is more palatable like yogurt.

We recommend filtered water for this purpose so there are no unwanted additives however if you prefer, you can also use spring or mineral water as well if that’s all you happen to have on hand.

P3-OM

Now comes the star of the show, the probiotics. You’ll need to get a healthy dose of probiotics into the mixture in order to create the fermentation process, which is what essentially turns this into yogurt, so to speak.

Otherwise, you just have a coconut mixture on your hands. The probiotics are what will transform that coconut and then provide many of the benefits that we’ve talked about here today.

P3-OM works great for this since you can just open the capsule and dump the contents into the yogurt. Then mix away and you are set.

So now that you know the ingredients, let’s get to the recipe. This recipe should not be customized until after the fermentation process is complete.

If at that point you want to add berries, cinnamon, or other healthy options to the recipe, you are free to do so but in order for the fermentation process to occur properly, you need to use only these ingredients in the beginning.

Coconut Yogurt Recipe

Step 1:

Combine 1 cup coconut meat with ¼ cup coconut water.

Step 2:

Place this mixture in a blender and then blend up until nearly smooth. You may need to push the coconut mixture down a few times in the blender and keep blending.

Step 3:

To this mixture add one cup of filtered water. Blend once more until as smooth as possible.

Step 4:

Once you have this mixture, now open up 5-10 capsules of P3-OM and blend this into the mixture. Stir until well combined and you are now ready for the fermentation process.

Step 5:

Place this mixture in a jar, being sure to leave at least a few inches of room for ‘growth’. This mixture is going to expand as the fermentation process begins to occur, so you need to make sure that you’re not crowding it.

Cover this mixture with either a cheesecloth or else a towel if you don’t have one and now let it sit for about 24 hours. If you are in a hot climate, you may not need to let it sit as long, or if you are in a cooler climate, it may need a bit more time for the fermentation process to be complete.

Once the fermentation process is complete, there should be little bubbles formed in the yogurt and it should have a tart taste and smell. This is comparable to what real yogurt also smells like (when it hasn’t been sweetened by added sugars).

Once it’s ready, store it in the fridge until you eat it and then serve it with your choice of added flavor mix-ins.

Eat this a few times per week and you are all set to start noticing great benefits to your health.

This yogurt will keep at least a few days, so you can make a big batch ahead of time and store it in the fridge throughout the week.

Breaking away from the box when it comes to regular yogurt is a wise plan as most yogurt varieties are filled with sugar and additives these days. By making your own, you know exactly what’s going into it and you can control it. This way you know you’re getting nothing but health-boosting properties.

If I don’t have coconut meat, could I use coconut manna? Thanks!

      Hello Heather,

Thank you for your question. My name is Sheila, and I am a Happy Health Concierge here at BiOptimizers! I did escalate your question, and unfortunately, we have never heard of coconut manna. It is safe to say if it is similar to coconut meat, then you should be fine using it. So you know, Almond milk is a good choice and some people use apple juice as well. Coconut and almonds are excellent as they contain some protein in conjunction with sugars which will optimize its growth. If you have any other questions, please do let me know. Take care and have a great day!

      My very best regards,
      Sheila

Looking forward to making this! I have a question about reusing the yogurt for later batches… do I have to start with the capsules every time or can I save some yogurt to use as a starter for my next batch? I know this method works for regular homemade yogurt but obviously I want to protect the probiotic properties which is the whole point of the thing 🙂
